Ravasqueira recognized for its ESG practices
Body

Ravasqueira implements responsible environmental, social and governance pratices throughout its production chain, earns certification, in the latest step of the WineStone Group's Sustainability Roadmap.

Ravasqueira has been awarded the National Wine Sector Sustainability Certification, or Referencial Nacional de Certificação de Sustentabilidade do Setor Vitivinícola. This sustainability certification was created by the Instituto da Vinha e do Vinho (IVV) and ViniPortugal, to promote both increasingly sustainable practices and an alignment between businesses in the wine industry along environmental, social and economic principles. Based on the European Climate Pact and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, this certification culminated in an audit by an independent organisation to ensure compliance with strict standards of ESG (Environment, Social and Governance). It represents another concrete step in Ravasqueira's commitment to sustainability, aligned with WineStone, the group that it belongs to.

Pedro Pereira Gonçalves, WineStone CEO says: “We’re very clear in our positioning in this industry, our purpose is to produce the brands that consumers most admire, by adding value to their natural and human wine-growing heritage and by laying down the roots for them to be enjoyed by future generations. That is achieved by creating high quality wine both sustainably and consistently.” He continues: “At WineStone, we ensure that our management and operation are sustainable, promoting a better social, environmental and economic future for all our stakeholders. That is why we’ll continue to invest in sustainable practices that add strength and solidity to the business. We aim to be fully certified across all the brands that compose the WineStone portfolio.”

The WineStone Sustainability Roadmap consists of 22 key commitments established around three pillars: People, Natural Capital and Government. This recognition demonstrates the company’s commitment to it in all the assets, territories and communities in which it operates: Ravasqueira, in the Alentejo, but also Quinta de Pancas, in Lisbon, Quinta do Retiro Novo and Quinta do Côtto, in the Douro, as well as Paço de Teixeiró, in the Vinho Verde region.

Sustainability practices are applied throughout the entire production chain, in measures such as the construction of a self-consumption production unit, the implementation of a system to calculate the carbon footprint of Ravasqueira's activity and the ongoing transition to lightweight glass bottles across the company's portfolio. From rigorous monitoring of water consumption in the vineyard and winery to the development of initiatives with a positive social impact on the Arraiolos community, Ravasqueira's many measures have ensured its certification by the IVV and ViniPortugal.
